Something in the Water Trailer Previews Shark Attack Movie

Samuel Goldwyn Films has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming shark attack horror feature Something in the Water, set to hit select theaters and digital platforms on May 3, 2024.

In the trailer, a group of five friends’ supposed fun wedding party turns into a nightmare when they have to brave the open waters to escape hungry sharks that are wreaking havoc on their idyllic destination.

The official synopsis (via BloodyDisgusting) reads: “An idyllic destination wedding turns into a battle for survival. The film follows Meg, who tentatively attends the wedding of old friend Lizzie in the Caribbean along with fellow pals Cam and Ruth, plus her former partner Kayla, whom she parted ways with after both survived a deeply traumatic event.”

Who stars in Something in the Water?

Directed by Hayley Easton Street, Something in the Water stars Hiftu Quasem (Ten Percent) as Meg, Lauren Lyle (Outlander) as Lizzie, Nicole Rieko Setsuko (Eavesdropping) as Cam, Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart (One Four Three) as Ruth, and Natalie Mitson (The Larkins) as Kayla. The upcoming survival film is written by Cat Clarke.

Something in the Water brings back cinema’s oft-used concept

It will be interesting how the forthcoming feature will play out considering the number of shark attack-themed movies that have been released in recent years. With 1975’s Jaws serving as one of the most popular shark attack movies — spawning several spin-offs, including Jaws 2, Jaws 3-D, and Jaws: The Revenge — the movie industry has seen its fair share of features with similar concepts.

This includes the Nicolas Cage-led USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, 2021’s Great White, the Johannes Roberts-helmed 47 Meters Down, The Meg, 1999’s Deep Blue Sea, and Blake Lively’s The Shallows. Besides Something in the Water, Netflix will also be releasing a shark attack horror film titled Under Paris. The French language horror film is set to hit the streamer on June 5, 2024.
